ONE OF THE GUYS

BY: Lisa Aldin
Genre: Contemporary Romance.
Year: 2015
Rate:💥💥💥💥💥

Five stars because of what this book made me feel.
Five stars because the swollen in my heart, the tears in my eyes, and the smile on my lips.
Yes, maybe there are some things that I would enjoy better if they were addressed in a different direction, but this book is like life, we don’t always get what we want, however, that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be great.
People always talk about changes, about the fear of growing up, of losing ourself or not recognize who we are. There are plenty of books about this topic, I’ve read many of them, nevertheless One of the guys, is one of the best.
The narrative is great, the plot is simple but effective, the dialogues, the characters are well done written, especially Toni. Even when I thought she seems younger than what her character represents, It’s impossible not to feel a connection with her with her honesty, her heart full of love and her desperation for clinging to what she always knew.
I always say, I’m a believer of new beginning and second chance. Now with this book, I also believe in moving on, keep going, treasure your past and look at to the future.
And I also believe that friendship can change that’s inevitable, but the links between real friends are stronger than steel. Okay, this last part is a little cheese, Toni wouldn’t like it, or maybe she will, after all, she has changed.
100% recommended. It will worth your time.
Best Phrases:
“This is the part where I say good bye to my childhood existence. This is the part where everyone is different. No turning back. No clinging to what once was.”
“Maybe change doesn’t have to mean growing apart. Maybe  it can mean growing closer.”

Y is for...You're my friend, you're my king

“Is there something wrong?” I asked surprised and concerned.
“No, nothing is wrong, on the contrary everything is perfect,” Rhyon said with sparks in his eyes, “you are perfect, beautiful, smart, brave.”
Oh oh!
“My prince, we should go back, it’s late.”
“Why are you calling me ‘Prince’ you’ve never done that before?”
I had my suspicions about Rhyon feelings, I guessed I was in denial. “You’re the Prince.”
“Tell me you care about me.”
“I do,” How can I not. He wasn’t just the Prince, he was my friend, he was like a brother to me.
“I care about you too, I like you I lov,”
I put my hands on his lips, “Please don’t say it.”
“Why not?” He looked at me with so much hope that killed me.
“Rhyon, I could die for you, But…” I couldn’t find the words.
“You love me, but not in the way I want you to love me.”
“I’m sorry.”
He gave me a sad smile. “I know you do.”

X is for...XENNIALS

Why do we feel like outsiders sometimes?
The answer is because we’re special. Let’s see:

As children we played outdoors, engaged in games we made ourselves, a long time before the advent of gaming consoles, we wrote actual letters for our friends and passed notes in class.
We weren’t able to coordinate meeting using text or WhatsApp, we had to use a receiver to call to our friends’ houses, speak to their parents and then finally we could talk to our friends, without not privacy, btw.
We don’t always have a cell phone, but we grew up watching their development.
We don’t always have an iPod. When we were teens, we recorded cassettes from the radio. I remember the adrenaline and the excitement when a favorite song was played, and we get to press the rec button on time.
We use social media but can remember living life without it. Before social media we needed to rely on our best friend and her ability to gossip, so we can have information about the boy we liked.
The internet was not a part of our childhoods, that’s true, but also, it’s true that computers existed and there was something special about the opportunity to use one.
Economically, Xennials have seen it all. They are old enough to remember the end of a long period of growth (following a small recession) in the 1990s, but they came of age around the time that the “dot-com bubble” burst and saw the decline and major recession of the 2000s. In other words, they were first given a sweet taste of the good life and then kicked in the face.
Xennials aren't too much of any one thing, it’s more like a unique situation of balance.
Some people say that Xennials are the lucky ones.

Like I said, we’re not lucky.  we’re special.

W is for...WISHES

“Star light Star bright,
 First star I see tonight,
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
I have a wish, I wish tonight. “

Pick and star, make a wish, dream about it and then work to make it real.
Never stop dreaming,
Never stop fighting,

YOU'RE MY PERSON

“You’re my person
You make me brave…”
“Where do you go with your broken heart in tow?
What do you do with the left over you?
And how do you know, when to let go?
Where does the good go, where does the good go?”

Grey’s Anatomy
Where Does the Good Go?
Tegan and Sara Lyrics.

RECORDANDO...

Love u my forever friendcitos!”

Y IS FOR

YOUR LIFE IS YOURS TO LIVE

I wanted to write about life, about how important is understand that we come to this world just once.
Then, I have a better thought. I wanted to write about how to live that one life. How to embrace every moment, how to enjoy every step without collecting regrets… How significant is make it right … But that wasn´t enough.
I could write pages and pages about how I feel in this moment… And still it wouldn´t be enough.
Then I remember a song with the perfect lyrics that portrayed exactly what my heart, my soul, my mind want to say it.
Here is the link of “I Lived” by One Republic.

X IS FOR....

X-MAS

“Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight”

The two girls were sitting in the front porch of the big house, the night of Christmas eve. Holding hands, both girls saw the first bright stars, the wishes one… They closed their eyes and asked for just one thing... To be best friend forever…
Even when the next day they are going to be miles away. Even when they are going to be in a different school, and meet new friends. The two little girls believe in their love for each other, and because of that they asked to the magic stars to keep the hearts together always.

V IS FOR....

 VOW TO A NEW BROTHER
The prince was walking quietly on tiptoes. He was hiding behind every pillar and huge curtains. It was a long way to the exit door and from there to the stables.
Today is his birthday and as every number seven he's going to receive a significant present.  This year he was going to have a horse, finally his own horse.
Once outside it got easier.  Everybody was inside preparing the party in h
is name. So he just ran until the stables and there it was a magnificent black horse.
He walked near to it, thinking already in a name, almost touching it, but the horse started to jump, the prince tried to calm down but it didn´t work. The horse turned frenetic and made the prince to fall into a poodle of mud.
A boy stood between the animal and the prince, protecting him.
“Are you ok my prince?”
“No, I'm not. I survived to be killed by my own horse, just to end dying in my sister hands. Look my cloths. It took me forever to come here without been seeing by anybody.
“We can use the back door behind the kitchen and follow the hallway. Everybody is busy nobody is going to notice us. I can take you to your room, you could change and give me your dirty clothes and I´ll wash them. Your sister will never find out.
The prince smiled widely. “What´s your name?”
“Kellan, my name is Kellan, my prince” The servant said giving a reverence.

The prince offered his hand. “Call me Rhyon. Today you have saved me twice.”

U IS FOR

UPSTAIRS BALCONY

“You are late”. The boy said.
“Not, I m not. What time it is?” The girl said looking up.
“I don’t know but you are late”.
“Is this the game for tonight? You saying I´m late and I´m saying I´m not”. This time the girl smiled.
“Nah… I wanna play another thing. The boy smiled back”.
“What do you want to play?”
The boy thought for a sec, then he asked her “Does your neck hurts?”
“A little. I have the worst part...looking up, kind of uncomfortable. You got it easier, just looking down all the time.”
“Do you want to stop playing with me here?” The girl noticed the sadness in her friend´s voice.
“No! I like our games.” The girl said with honesty.
The light was dim, the barely could see each other, a floor was the distance between them.
“I like them too” The boy told her with relief. “You pick the game”
“What about guessing? I brought my books with many guesses”.
“Okay… I´ll go first… Hit me…”
It was like that every night for many months. The two kids met at the balcony. One lived in the first floor, the other one in the second floor. There weren´t social media, or cell phone at that time. They just talked, read and listened to music. One day the girl moved out and never so her friend again.

She doesn´t remember his name, or his face. But thirty two year later, she still has the memories of their meeting nights at the balcony.

R is for...

RHYON, THE FUTURE KING.

We arrived to the cave hidden in the middle of Evergreen Woods before the breaking dawn. It was the perfect security location. A few months ago, Kellan and I found it.  It was so intricate to get in and out of there, we even got lost once.
Under Kellan´s orders, the guards went to check the perimeter, while Ryder and Spring set a temporary camp.
Kellan pulled me in a tight hug and kissed my front head. “Are you hurt?” he asked me. I shook my head.
“Can you tell me what the hell is going on?"
But I couldn´t answer. Instead I looked at Rhyon. Kellan did the same, then he walked in his direction. Placing a hand in one of Prince´s shoulders he asked, “Are you Okay?”
 The Prince shook his head.
“Are you hurt?” The prince shook his head again.
“Our father is dead” Rhyon finally said.
Kellan hugged the prince with affection and sorrow. In that moment the two men grieved the fallen king as two children who had lost their father. Yes, because, not by blood, but definitely King Rowland had also been a father to Kellan.
“Long life to the King Rhyon”, one of the guards who broke the silence, while he was kneeling dawn before him, as the rest of people did the same. I knelt as well to honor my new king.
Kellan separated from Rhyon and started to kneel dawn, but Rhyon stopped him. “Don´t”.
Rhyon extended his hand helping me to stand up. “Don´t do it again” he said lowly. “Everyone, stand up please. Thank you for your loyalty but I´m not the King yet”.
“But you will” Kellan said with determination. “First we must to protect our Prince.” He spoke to the small crowd “and then we save our Kingdom”.

SPAIN

I was 15 years old, when I promised to myself to go backpacking across Europe… Well it didn´t happen exactly as I planned, but I did went to the old continent at least to a part of it.  And I´m still looking for some genuine words to describe the most incredible experience of my life.
They were just two weeks, with so much to see, so much to do, so much to enjoy that at the end it was never enough time. However, what I did, what I saw it´s going to be forever in my heart.
The best part, I wasn´t by myself, I was with my oldest best friend. We met again after awhile and at the airport he gave me my own “love actually movie” hug.  During that time together, we share old stories, happy memories, we talked about our new projects and our fears, we went to the movies, we watched the sunset on the beach, and in the light of the night, we saw a water fountain to dance. It was like when we were kids.
During two weeks I felt free, I crossed the Atlantic by myself, is amazing how powerful that little thing it made me feel. I admired the horizon on the top of the world; I filled my heart with the history and culture of a wonderful country.
Today I´m watching the clock on the wall, I´m thinking right now is noon out there,  moreover I´m thinking about possibilities which one should be the next to make it a reality, because that was Spain taught me, life is about dreams, we just need the courage to  become them true.

THE FIRST TRIP

It was the summer of 89, when my friends and I went to a summer camp in a marvelous place. It was in a mountain with a nice weather, beautiful landscapes, wonderful colors, and a lot of magical adventures at least for a group of 13 old years kids.

We spent an entire week but it felt longer, and even when it was long time ago I can smell yet the scent of callas and fresh grass, hear the sounds of crickets at midnight, I can close my eyes and see the most wonderful starry sky I ever saw before, and I could feel the warm from the bonfire being witness of our singing and storytelling.
The girls beat the boys in a night game, it was fabulous especially when the boys didn´t want to play anymore… well what can I say… Girls always rule!!!.
I celebrated my 14th birthday and I received my first kiss from my first boyfriend, an adorable boy who against all odds he became in my gay best friend, the godfather of my daughter and according to my husband the only person in the entire world who can make me take a ride in the most terrifying roller coaster.
Also, it was the year when I started sleeping over at my crazy green eyes friend´s house. A friendship so strong that after 6 years of being lost, it returned just like it was before.
When we were camping she always had to cook, crying and complaining because the smoke from the grill, however she assumed her duty with dignity, of course she had the power over the food thus it was her choice if  we starved or not.
The other member of the gang was this skinny girl, who I met a year before the trip, she used to wear gigantic glasses that made her look smaller, during our adventure she was always making jokes and laughing a lot.  A proof of that were her wet pants, which by the way it was our secret, well, at least for the first five minutes after that. Today, my dear friend is a gorgeous woman who can maintain her glamour and style, despite the torturous boots she likes to wear.
We didn´t made an oath or spit our hands, neither we cut our fingers to become in blood siblings nor any kind of common ritual among little friends. But somehow, something happened in that trip. Whatever it was, it defined us and has kept us together even in the distance, sharing our most significant moments and filling our minds and souls with the most remarkable memories.
I read once that you never are going to have friends like those you found in your childhood.  I don´t know if it is true, but in my case, this next august is going to be our birthday, twenty six years since this unique friendship was born, and we keep collecting them ...
