ON THIN ICE

By: Julie cross
Genre: Y/A Contemporary fiction
Year: 2019
Rate: 3,7 stars 💥💥💥🌟

“Brooke Parker never expected to find herself in the tiny town of Juniper Falls, Minnesota. Of course, she also never expected to lose her dad. Or for her mom to lose herself. Brooke feels like she’s losing it…until she finds Juniper Falls hockey. Juniper Falls girls’ hockey, that is.
Jake Hammond, current prince of Juniper Falls, captain of the hockey team, and player with the best chance of scoring it big, is on top of the world. Until one hazing ritual gone wrong lands him injured, sitting on the sidelines, and―shocking even to him―finding himself enjoying his “punishment” as assistant coach for the girls’ team.
As Jake and Brooke grow closer, he finds the quiet new girl is hiding a persona full of life, ideas, and experiences bigger and broader than anything he’s ever known. But to Jake, hockey’s never just been a game. It’s his whole life. And leveraging the game for a shot at their future might be more than he can give.”

This a sweet, lovely, cute reading, with great descriptions, good characters, and flows really well.
The story is told from both main character POV which is my favorite and, in this case, Brooke and Jake are great together, the chemistry, the love, is all there.
The plot is more complex than what is expected. It shows a reality for some athletes, and both side of the ambition, the good and the bad.
It’s a story about self-respect, right and wrong, choices and consequences.
The last quarter is fantastic, I couldn’t stop until I reach the end. I was absorbed into the story, but the first part is a little messy with so many sub-plots and holes that doesn’t help the reader to keep focus on the main goal, and there are inconsistencies on the main characters' thoughts, at first it seems part of their personality but then It looks more like a flaw in the writing.
However, like I said, it’s a nice, fresh, and romantic reading with a great message for everyone.
100% recommended.

IUSTITIA

I fell in love once, not with a guy but with a girl.
She was strong and powerful,
she was blind, but with a little help, she could see the truth,
she showed me the beauty of values,
she made me believe.
I’m not sure if at some point in my life I lost that love,
I want to think that it went to sleep and
last week when I visited one of her many houses, it woke up.
I walked through the hallways, I entered the rooms,
my eyes filled with tears,
my heart skipped a beat,
her presence was everywhere.
Then, I thought about the possibilities and why not?
Maybe someday, I’ll help her again.

R is for ROBERT FROST.

This is one of my favorites poems by Roberts frost and ever.
When I’m tired, when I want to escape, when I need a moment to myself,
I read the last part of the poem,
it always reminds me that the more important of life is to live.

BIRCHES
Year:1969

…So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so, I dream of going back to be.
It's when I'm weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig's having lashed across it open.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better.
I'd like to go by climbing a birch tree,
And climb black branches up a snow-white trunk
Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more,
But dipped its top and set me down again.
That would be good both going and coming back.

One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.

N is for...NOT ENOUGH

The third week in the AtoZchallenge starts we a story where love sometimes is not enough.

Jake ran through the train station, searching the sea of people, it couldn’t be late. It couldn’t.
“Sarah!”
There she was, beautiful as always. He walked to her with a sense of relief and fear at the                    same time, praying, hoping.
“I don’t want you to go, I was wrong, I love you.”
Sarah looked into his eyes without talking.
“Please say something.”
Finally, she went to her tip-toes and kissed his cheek. “Sometimes Love is not enough.                        Goodbye, my love.”
Sarah turned around and walked away.

H is for...HUMAN RIGHTS, ALWAYS

Human Rights are more than words.
Human rights are for each human being.
Human Rights more than ever,
We don’t need to fight, instead, we need faith.
Human Right to a better World.
It’s possible,
It could be real,
Keep going, keep talking, keep spreading the word.

G is for...GUARDIAN ANGEL

Guardian Angels are real. I know it, I’ve seen mine in my dreams.
My angel is beautiful and loyal, she’s always with me.
When I’m scared, when I’m sad or angry or just frustrated,
And suddenly I felt how a soft breeze clear my mind, It’s my angel
telling me everything is okay.
When I was seven my dad told me, don’t worry, your angel will always keep you safe.
I know it now, I knew it then, and every night I pray to say thanks.

F is for...FAVORITES POEMS, FAVORITES POETS.

FAVORITE POEMS, FAVORITES POETS.

y el corazón me dice que no te olvidaré;

B is for BE YOURSELF

Be a princess or be a warrior,
Use a sword or a magic wand.
Wear pink or wear black,
Walk in stilettos or combat boots.
A girl can be strong playing football or dancing ballet.
A girl can be beautiful with long hair or short.
A girl can have a voice for a speech or for a song.
A girl doesn’t need to be different to be powerful,
To be equal, a girl just needs to believe in herself and in
her ability to be whatever she wants to be.

YOU'RE MY PERSON

“You’re my person
You make me brave…”
“Where do you go with your broken heart in tow?
What do you do with the left over you?
And how do you know, when to let go?
Where does the good go, where does the good go?”

Grey’s Anatomy
Where Does the Good Go?
Tegan and Sara Lyrics.

THE SOUND OF FREEDOM

There is a building construction in progress across the street.
The parking lot in front of me is over flooded.
Plenty of cars are going back and for through the highway.
And then in the midst of the chaos, I’m feeling so much peace.
That peace is a true sign that I’m moving on.
I still don’t know what is going to be the next chapter in my life,

But, I’m certainly sure I made the right choice.

FIVE YEARS ALREADY?

Do you know how much time five years are?
Let me tell you how much it is.
It’s the amount of time I’ve been without hugging my parents and bickering with them. Let’s be honest, it used to happen all the time.
It’s the amount of time I’ve been without giving orders to my brothers. Because when they are handsome men already, I’m the oldest sister that means, I’m always the boss.
It’s the amount of time I’ve been without having coffee with my friends and sharing work’s gossips.  Just so you know they are the best. My friends and work’s gossips.
It has been five years, since the night when we arrived at this land very far at North, we our life fitted in a couple of suitcases and our hope packaged in our hearts.
Five years ago, I was born again.
Five years ago, I fall in love with a country so noble; it allowed me to keep my feelings for my first love.
Venezuela, I miss you so much and I’ll love you forever.
But five years ago I took a chance. I decided to live the adventure.
Today I know it was worth the effort, because my new home is beautiful and kind, with snow, hockey and maple syrup.

Canada, I just want you to know I’m happy here.

G is for....

GELID HEART
I used to know what love means, but not anymore.
I used to care about others, but it was long time ago.
I thought I knew where to find happiness, but I was wrong.
I trusted once and twice, and again, and again;
until one day, my heart said it was enough.
Enough of being disappointed.
Enough of being deceived.
Enough, just enough.
Now, my heart refuses to believe.
Now my heart refuses to beat for somebody else.
It safer, he says to me…
And perhaps, my heart is right.

Perhaps having none feelings is the safest way to live.

CONFESSIONS

After reading Confess by Colleen Hoover, and having recovered from my broken heart thanks to that book, I felt inspired to write my own confessions.
So, here they are:
I confess, I lie to my daughter when I tell her vegetables taste good. I hate vegetables.
I confess, I have a guilty pleasure for t.v shows about drama and suffering. Really, there are a few shows I can’t stop watching them.
I confess my fascination for everything Pink. I do believe I’m a princess and I’m not ashamed of that.
I confess my terrible OCD behavior and how is affecting my life. I can’t stop thinking about those things I can’t control, and that’s killing me.
I confess, I’m terrified of changes. I know I need to leave my comfort zone. I know that somewhere there is greatness for me, still, I don’t know how to make myself go outside and conquer my world.
I confess my fear of failing.
I confess that I scared of realizing one day that I didn’t know how to live.
I don’t want to waste more time.
I don’t want to feel alone anymore.

I don’t want to be afraid of my dreams.

BLOOD LOVE

Emma had heard the stories, she’d read about them. They were urban legends until now.
She opened her eyes and gasped. Emma’s entire body hurt. Her eyes could see everything even beyond the curtains; it was like having magnifying glasses attached to them. The pain in her jaw was killing her, even when she was already dead as all the love she once felt. The gums, God! They were being cut by two sharp knives. But the worst was her throat. Emma was thirsty, she needed water desperately to put out the fire; no, not water, the thought of it repulsed her. Then, when she heard it, she licked her lips in anticipation. The persistent thump of a heart beat on the second floor.

ADVENTURE

It’s the feeling of starting again.
It’s the feeling of being free.
I’m running away from a life I don’t want anymore,
looking for a new life, that I’m not sure if someday, I will deserve it.
But for now, I’m here in between.
Between was is right and what I wish,
between my dreams and the reality on Earth.
I am here, living without regrets an adventure that never has been mine.
But until the moment is come, this will be enough for me.

I need to believe that.

THIS IS NOT A NEW BEGINNING

“Can we start over?” The girl asked.

There, in the middle of the road, the boy turned his back to her. “Do you mean to forget about everything, like none of this happened?”

“No,” She said after a few seconds. “I don’t think we should forget, I think we should remember and learn.”
“I don’t know if that will work, I don’t believe in new beginnings or second chances.” The boy sounded so determined, also, so broken.
“I’m not asking that.” The girl placed a hand in the back of his shoulder. She felt his body tensed but he didn’t move away.
“So, then is going to be the same, we are going to continue making the same mistakes.” He said.
“Not necessarily. We’re going to write a new story about you and me, like a new chapter in our life.”
“Well, the last chapter was a disaster.”
“Yes it was.” Her voice trembled. Still touching him, she closed her eyes. He was right and she felt how she was going to lose him again.
The boy turned around and took her hands. “Yes, it was a disaster, except for one thing.”
With watery eyes she looked at him. “Which one?”
The boy’s smile lit up the world, her world and in a whisper near to her ear he answered. “You.”

Z IS FOR....

ZZzzz

Tonight go to sleep and have some dreams…
Dream about the life you want.
Dream about what makes you happy.
Dream about wishes, flowers, castles and stars...
Dreams come true… Always believe in that.
But for that to happen, you must to work on it.
Magic exists… Just, if you are willing to create it.

Good Night!

Last day of #atozchallenge... Wonderful month!

Y IS FOR

YOUR LIFE IS YOURS TO LIVE

I wanted to write about life, about how important is understand that we come to this world just once.
Then, I have a better thought. I wanted to write about how to live that one life. How to embrace every moment, how to enjoy every step without collecting regrets… How significant is make it right … But that wasn´t enough.
I could write pages and pages about how I feel in this moment… And still it wouldn´t be enough.
Then I remember a song with the perfect lyrics that portrayed exactly what my heart, my soul, my mind want to say it.
Here is the link of “I Lived” by One Republic.

X IS FOR....

X-MAS

“Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight”

The two girls were sitting in the front porch of the big house, the night of Christmas eve. Holding hands, both girls saw the first bright stars, the wishes one… They closed their eyes and asked for just one thing... To be best friend forever…
Even when the next day they are going to be miles away. Even when they are going to be in a different school, and meet new friends. The two little girls believe in their love for each other, and because of that they asked to the magic stars to keep the hearts together always.
