K IS FOR......

KATIE MCGARRY BEST BOOK

WALK THE EDGE
By: Katie Mcgarry
Genre: Y/A Romance
Year: 2016
 RATE:  Five Stars.

I love Katie Mcgarry books, and with every review I say the same, but I can´t avoid it. So far my favorite book was Dare you to. Ryan and Beth is an absolutely breathtaking story… However last week I read Walk the edge and it was love from the first word to the end.
Walk the edge is the second book of the series Thunder Road. It´s the love story of Razor and Breanna.
Razor is part of the Reign of Terror motorcycle club. They are his family, however he can´t trust in them not completely. He has so many demons inside and a past that hunting him every single day, which doesn´t let him to find peace. One day, he finds a hint to erase those demons. But for that he needs help. So he makes a deal with Breanna, the smart, quiet, with a special brain girl. Both help each other… but not just with their respective problems, Breanna and Razor turn in a mutual safe heaven, in an anchor for each other.

The story is told by both main characters POV, which is one of my favorite writing style, because you can have a better perspective of the paper world. The writing style is excellent, the author have a natural voice… The pace is effective; slow, fast, with action, according with every moment. Plus Katie gave solution to every problem that as a reader I saw… Every question that I asked was answered in perfect time.  The dialogues are powerful making the characters real.
Also, beside the love which is wholehearted, the writer discusses susceptible topics, cyber bulling and suicide, with sensitivity. In addition, she includes family issues, trust issues, which make this book a passionate, intense and heartbreaking ride.
I laughed, I cried, I sighed, I re- read so many phrases that I already memorize some of them…
I really couldn´t find anything wrong with this book. Even what other reviewers mention about the awfulness of Brianna parents…Well about that, I think parents make mistakes, they are not perfect, And, yes sometimes the choices they make are not the best. But the all people, I think they are the most who need a second chance.
I recommended this book one hundred percent, and if I can give more than 5 star I would.
This book definitely worth your time, your tears and your heart.
 BEST PHRASES
“I´m searching for magic- not the Christmas´ morning type, but the type of magic that can be found by being courageous, being the girls who takes chances, being the girls who will dance I want to be the girl who is seen”.
“We all have choices to make. What lies we accept to believe”.
“Sometimes people are to busy hearing what they want to hear, seeing what they want to see, and they don´t care what´s real, only what they think is real”
“We learn that our lives are not determined by fate, but by our own free will”

J is for.....

JOSÉ ANGEL BUESA

I read most of his poems when I was in high school. I think I fell in love with “LOVE” because of his words.
He was born in Cuba and he lived in exile, Jose Angel Buesa dedicated his life to write and teach poetry.
This is my favorite poem by him, the one that makes me cry every time I read it. This is about the most pure and devoted love.

POEM TO RENOUNCEMENT

You will pass for my life without knowing it.
You will pass quietly for my love and, while passing,
I'll fake a smile as a sweet contrast
The pain of loving you ... and you'll never know.

I will dream of the nacre on your forehead,
I will dream with your emerald sea-like eyes,
I will desperately dream of your lips,
I will dream of your kisses ... and you'll never know.

Perhaps you pass with someone else, who whispers in your ear
Those phrases no one else but me will tell you;
And drowning forever my unaware love,
I'll love you more than ever ... and you will never know.

I will love you in silence ... like someone inaccessible,
Like a dream that I will never fulfill;
And the distant perfume of my impossible love
It will touch your hair ... and you will never know.

And if one day a tear unveils my torment,
The endless torment I must hide from you,
I will say with a smile: "It's nothing ... it has been the wind."
I will wipe away a tear ... and you'll never know!

I IS FOR....

INSTANTS
Through the web, there is a controversy about who is the author of this poem.  Some says is Jorge Luis Borges, other says it was someone else. Well, I don´t know who is right, but what I can say for sure is this poem is marvelous work, emotional, deep, complex, honest and  wise. It´s a sea of emotions.
Sometimes when I feel lost, and I am crying and depressed, I tell to myself: “remember to live when you ´re still alive…
So here it is…

If I could live again my life,
In the next - I'll try,
 to make more mistakes,
I won't try to be so perfect,
I'll be more relaxed,
I'll be more full - than I am now,
In fact, I'll take fewer things seriously.

I'll be less hygienic,
I'll take more risks,
I'll take more trips,
I'll watch more sunsets,
I'll climb more mountains,
I'll swim more rivers,
I'll go to more places - I've never been,
I'll eat more ice creams and less beans,
I'll have more real problems - and less imaginary
ones.

I was one of those people who live
prudent and prolific lives -
each minute of his life,
Off course that I had moments of joy - but,
if I could go back I'll try to have only good moments,
If you don't know – that´s what life is made of,
Don't lose the now!

I was one of those who never goes anywhere
without a thermometer,
without a hot-water bottle,
and without an umbrella and without a parachute,
If I could live again - I will travel light,
If I could live again - I'll try to work bare feet
at the beginning of spring till
the end of autumn,
I'll ride more cars,
I'll watch more sunrises and play with more children,
If I have the life to live - but now I am 85,

- and I know that I am dying ...

HUMAN RIGHTS MORE THAN WORDS

The article 1 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights establishes All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. But, every day
we are witnesses of tragedies around the world against people, against their right that belong to all of us, just for being humans.
We need to understand that, the humans rights are not an obstacle, they represent one of the essential elements of society. That is why the appropriate education should be based on the promotion of genuine dialogue, active tolerance, appreciation of diversity and respect for the dignity of life. We must also remember that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the stage of life in which the human rights of all are respected.
I believe that people can live in harmony just with a little effort.  I am not talking about a lovely utopia of peace. I am talking of a possible reality, with the collaboration of all humans, and for that it is time to start educating and learning.

I made this video about Human Rights a couple years ago for a writing class.

G IS FOR

THE GOLDEN BOY
Connor is my Golden boy. Yes, He is the main male character in my book. A book that I´ve been writing since… well, forever and I don´t know when I´m going to finish it. The story is told from the female character POV, so in there we are not going to read Connor´s thoughts. That´s why I felt the necessity of writing some words from his POV.  Making him real. So, here there are Connor´s thoughts the first day at school:
After my brief orientation, I am walking through the hallway to my classroom. Second floor and then to the right. That´s what the girl -I didn´t pay attention to her name- from the front desk told me to go. I sighed, I can´t avoid it. This is the second school in two months, the four in a year. I guess my mom is right. Family is what matters the most, and family should be together. That´s why I´m here. There are eyes focused on me, people´s whispering. The new basketball star, the general´s son, the golden boy.
I am not a damn golden boy. I...am not. At seventeen I´ve made to many fucking mistakes. Now I just want to make things right. This time is going to be better, is going to be different. The way I see it, if I´m going to have everything I want, this is my last shot. And I don´t have intention to miss it.

F IS FOR....

FANTASY ISLAND

When I was a child I used to watch a TV show named “The Fantasy Island
”. In there, the visitors of a fantastic island made their dreams come true, after dealing with different difficulties and problems. Well, lately I´ve thought the Fantasy Island really exist, the dilemma is knowing where to find it.

As a new immigrant, I had to shed waterfalls, overcome hundreds of obstacles and lock nostalgia in a drawer, in order to go searching for my very special piece of paradise.   The irony is that my little paradise is not an exotic and distant piece of land in the Pacific, neither is full of fame or fortune ... I found my very particular fantasy island in a far corner up north of the American continent, where despite the cold and the weather adversities, I´ve found peace. Now I am part of a community where my family can live and thrive, where we are respected only by the fact of being individuals, and where there are equal opportunities.  But most of all, it´s a place where work and effort is rewarded with quality of life, hope and desire to continue dreaming ..

EMOTIONS
I had forgotten that a few years ago I had written this ... A few words describing how I felt at that time. Today I´m thankful because I believe I have overcome those blue emotions, even when sometimes they feel like wanting to come back.

“All souls find their Destiny,
but where is mine?...
I wonder… perhaps it lost its path?”

In Spanish (original versión )
Todas las almas encuentran su destino,
pero donde está el mío?...
me pregunto ¿acaso se extravió?
